The last project "el cubo"

Como ustedes sabrán, estudio arquitectura ya que es el camino a estudiar Diseño Industrial en mi universidad. Y mi último proyecto fue este. El estudio para un chico de 19 años donde además pudiera dormir, utilizando el espacio que hay dentro de un cubo de 5mx5mx5m.
Esta fue mi propuesta. Espero que les guste.
La inclinación se debe a dos cosas, la primera es la vista pues a un lado se encuentra una gran barranca y la segunda es el asoleamiento.

Well, as you guys know (or probably you don't) I study architecture because it's compulsory for getting into industrial design.
Here is my last project which was about a room-studio for a 19 year old boy. The restrictions were pretty simple: do it in a cube which was 5mx5mx5m (i don't know if it's really how you'd actually say it...anyway)

So, this is pretty much the cycle in which all products live in. It all starts from nature, the place we get our materials from since a long long time ago (think about stone, clay, water, wood, even animals in products like leather). This extracted material passes though a series of transformations and processes where it gets all the specs that nowadays we "need" for the following step; production, here the different materials are deformed, reshaped, transformed into individual pieces that most often are assembled with other pieces (very often of different sources of materials) then packed in individuals, then in groups, sometimes even packed with a third or fourth packaging to travel long distances. The next step is transportation. This is a key process in the view of the ecological impact of a product. Let´s talk about moulding -shapes and materials-

During the process of research on this growing material, turned out that the material and shape (although a little bit less) matters for the fungi to grow properly. This last months I've been working with different types of moulds. Mainly silicone based moulds. Also with glass and plastic like PP or PE from recused food containers. It turnes out that the best performance was given by the silicone moulds that are used in the food industry. Not sure if there is a specific type of name but the ones I was using where for making ice. I'm pretty sure the ones that are used for baking would also be well suited for this task. There is a couple of photos showing the thickness of the walls. I found that this thickness becomes important because a good performance is given when it's allowing the mycelium to breath in and out having an exchange of gases. It it also important to consider that the mould should be compressing the shape enough to not be too deformed on the way. In the...

Un poco de estambre

Para variarle un poco, este estuche de estambre. No está a la venta pues fue un capricho personal que es altamente valorado. Pero se publica en este blog para hacer saber a la gente que lo visita, el tipo de artilugios que se pueden crear utilizando el cerebro y las manos de un triángulo. Tiene un forro que, en sus orígenes, estaba destinado a ser mantel, por eso las fresas...está mono, ¿no?
